March 19th, 2013

my friend timothy sent me this photo last year, he knows i am crazy about ric rac. thanks tim!!!

twisted ric rac!

here’s a close up…

twisted ric rac!

i had never seen it applied this way, but then i don’t get out much. maybe you have?

i officially love it! just twist two pieces of ric rac together and it’s an entirely different trim. fun!

twisted ric rac looks cute with vintage fabric!

sunshine, lollipops & rainbows!

March 1st, 2013

hi there!

well, my new years resolution to blog more regulary seems to have fizzled out before it even began. but i have so much stuff to blog about, really i do!

first things first–this has been happening over here:

 sonny n lucy

i tell ya, the last 1/2 of the year was a hard one. i lost 2 of the greatest cats (old age related illness) and my sweet bunny pal (old age, natural causes) all in about 4 months time.

in october i adopted sonny (the big guy, and the paw model from the last post) and then a couple of weeks later lucy (the little grey one) showed up meowing on my front porch. she was teeny tiny! only a few months old. i heard her and opened the door and she practically ran right in. since the moment they met they have been the best of friends, so it is pretty much sunshine, lollipops and rainbows around here these days.

and while we are on the subject of lesley gore and cats, please enjoy this video.

i found this incredibly cute unfinished needlepoint at the thrift store a few weeks ago, so perfect! it looks just like little lucy!

little grey kitten!

oh, and here are a couple more cute little embroideries i found recently…

what?

bunny in the bathtub?!

ladybugs under a toadstool needlepoint

now i think i will take a tip from that bunny and go take a soak!

cat toy

December 24th, 2012

hey, did you know it’s christmas tomorrow? need a last minute gift for your cat?

here is the easiest cat toy ever…well, maybe not as easy as a crumpled up piece of paper, but i don’t know if that would really be classified as a toy.

“somebody” kept pilfering pom poms and pipe cleaners from my craft pile so i came up with this, and it seems to be a hit!

you will need: 2 pom poms, 1 chenille pipe cleaner, awl, pliers

1) poke a hole through the center of the pom poms with the awl  2) stick the pipe cleaner through the holes  3) bend the ends of the pipe cleaner over with the pliers  4) fluff the pom poms  5) throw on the floor

bandanas

September 25th, 2012

i love bandanas. i wear them all the time, especially when it’s sunny (which is most of the time) so my part doesn’t get sunburnt when my hair is in braids (which is most of the time).

i have them in lots of colors and patterns to match every occasion, from cuddling bunnies to pulling parts at the wrecking yard…

the idea of making a bandana print skirt has been floating around over here for a while (in fact i started writing this post over a year ago!)

then recently there was an episode of ‘columbo’ on tv co-starring suzanne pleshette and she was wearing a large scale bandana print top and a matching kerchief, and that finally got the ball rolling again!

i came across these cute bandana projects while flipping through an old ‘pack-o-fun’ magazine. those bandana wearin’ wastebaskets are pretty funny!
