bavarian bangles

a fast-n-fun variation of good ol’ tape roll bracelets, with an alpine twist! a great way to use up leftover scraps of cute woven trim and whip up some oktoberfest-y accessories.

you will need:
empty tape rolls
woven trim
felt
baby ric rac (optional)
glue gun
scissors
tape
needle & thread

the tape rolls were a little too big for my wrist, so i cut out about a 1 inch section and taped it closed.

it will be slightly out of round, gently press back into a circle.

choose trim that is just a tiny bit wider than the tape roll. measure the circumference and cut a piece of trim about a 1/2 inch longer. lay the trim on top of felt and cut to size.

glue the trim onto the outside of tape roll, overlapping ends and folding raw edge under. glue felt inside of roll, overlapping ends (you may need to trim a little off the end)

whip stitch the sides together.

i added some baby ric rac to the edge as i stitched, you know how much i love ric rac!

wear them with that adorable alpine sweater you made!

a couple of things

August 20th, 2012

hi there!

i haven’t done much thrifting this summer, but i did stop by a shop near the dentist as my reward after getting a couple of fillings replaced. i found this amazing hand woven wall hanging while the novocaine wore off…

i love it! it’s pretty big, 32″x42″. there was another piece by the same person but i didn’t like it as much so i left it behind but i still feel a little guilty about splitting them up.

also found an alpine cow bell as big as my head…

see what i mean?!

hope you’ve been having a wonderful summer!

fabric spotting

June 29th, 2012

pretty excited to see this piece of fabric on etsy. love the crazy colorway!

it’s the same print as this one from a quilt my mother made for me when i was little.

inspiration

June 16th, 2012

i’ve had this wooden box from mexico for many years, it’s in my workroom so i look at it alot. the design is made in some kind of thick paint/plaster, it’s brittle and every once in a while another little piece chips off. i always think, wouldn’t that make some kind of a cute print? i love the little critters and birds scattered around on it. so…

frolic skirt!

and how perfectly do those cute scalloped clogs go with it? as fortune would have it, those clogs are on sale this week! did you happen to notice there is also a blue and a black pair to match all 3 skirt colorways? what luck! i think i might need another pair…

wonderfully rejuvenating!

May 15th, 2012

i bought this cute vintage wool vest a couple of years ago on etsy. it tickled my fancy and the price was right so…

then last night i was wasting a little time over there again and look what i saw! i don’t know how i will ever survive without that cute matching hat!

just like the envelope says, a wonderfully rejuvenating set!

it felt like summer today

if you haven’t made any of these yet, do it! they’ve totally changed my laundry hanging experience. they can change yours too!

cute furniture

April 5th, 2012

you are probably familiar with anri and their carved figurines, but did you know they made furniture at some point? i didn’t, until i found these three cuties…

i found the cabinet first, then the end table and stool about a year later.

i can’t really find any information on the furniture, i did read that they made some in the 60’s but i can’t seem to find that page on the internet anymore.

i’ll admit i’m not a fan of the figurines, but i’m a total sucker for cute alpine chalet style furniture!
