show and tell!

hi! i’m back from my trip!

i wanted to show you this amazing tablecloth that my great-aunt deda gave to me while i was in germany. she embroidered it when she was about 12 or 13 years old.

i also wanted to show you these super cute toadstool potholders that socorro whipped up and will be available on my website in the next couple of weeks (if i don’t keep them all for myself!). she sewed on little buttons for the dots!

and i wanted to show you this most adorable purse i found a while ago with my trip in mind. i wanted something that i could carry my camera and travel necessities around in so this one is pretty roomy. the original handle was cracked so i replaced it with one i made from an old tooled leather belt. it worked out perfectly. i might start using it as my everyday purse even though it’s kind of big. the pictures are woven like a tapestry but it feels looped like a rug. i guess that would make it a carpet bag.

Holy crap I’m blown away by that tablecloth as well!!! It’s positively stunning and looks fabulous with the yellow chairs.
Hope your trip was fantastic! I wish we could get together so you could tell me all about it over grilled cheeses at Denny’s. Damn distance. Pooh.

Isn’t it amazing that girls used to make such beautiful works of useful art only a few years ago, while a few years later so many people are stuck in front of the telly? Lovely!

You made my day! I found you through Posygetscozy and I’m so happy. Such inspiration and cool stuff. Must pick out a skirt for my summer frolicking. You are so lucky to have such an heirloom from your great-aunt. Though all of my relatives did hand work, it was all for practical purposes, and got worn out (according to my dad). I know you will cherish your table cloth!

I teach art in a primary school ( up to the age of 12) and I look at things like the beautiful cloth your aunt embroidered and marvel at the patience and persistence of those girls, they were not uncommon but now if an activity takes more than a couple of lessons they tend to loose interest. I am teaching my yr 3 children to do French knitting and amazingly many of them have been engrossed in it for several weeks. (both boys and girls!)
