i finally learned how to crochet!
yay! i’m so excited, these are the first things i made!
i’ve been wanting to learn how to crochet for a long time, then i was inspired by all the cuteness in linda’s new book, and this giant granny square. i was over at socorro’s house last weekend and she showed me a few crochet stitches, and i actually remembered them by the time i got home! then the next night i went to my friend jenny’s house and saw one of those little bunnies on her fridge that her grandma made, and knew i had to make one. i found the pattern for the bunny and squirrel here. the squirrel was a little tricky for me because i hadn’t learned how to decrease stitches yet but i figured it out with the help of the reader’s digest complete guide to needlework. and it actually came out squirrel-shaped so i’m pretty pleased with myself!
any suggestions for some cute and simple things for a beginner like me to practice making?

Those are the cutest!! I especially like the squirrel!
Alas, I do not crochet, so I don’t know what’s out there. But of course you should try a MUSHROOM!!

Oh wow! They are so very cute and amazing. You’ve never crocheted before?
The easiest thing to crochet and gain a lot of practice with is a granny square.
Check out Lucy’s blog at Attic24 she has some nice pattern tutorials and Sarah London has posted some really great tutes recently too.

Adorable!! There are lots of cute/easy things to crochet. It looks like you got started working in the round so you could always do a basic hat to get started (then you could put your embellishments on it when you were done!).

They are fantastic and well done on the ‘learning to crochet’ – it’s taken me a year just to learn the basics!!
Thank you for the fridgies link – I’m going to give some of those a try.
Have a lovely day,

DOILIES!!!! I love doilies in bright colors and using a #10 cotton thread; I can’t stay away from them, or stop making them.

I LOVE those crochetted bunnies!!! I think I’m goin to have to learn!

Ooops. Not the #10 cotton thread but the #3 cotton thread. This thread is even great to make flowers and sew the flowers onto “sweaters.”

They are fantastic. I think you can probably skip the beginner projects already but Attick24 has some great tutorials, that’s where I learnt.

Learning to crochet is on my long list of things to do. You are a quick study. Nice job and so cute. What do you plan to do with those? They would make sweet little pins.

oh my! i wore these on my buttondowns everyday mom would let me between 2nd and 4th grade! you should find the book “fridgies” and go wild! it was too expensive for me but maybe ebay has it. i had bunnies in all different colors, pumpkins with google eyes, a santa face, an oreo, a choco chip cookie, an uncle sam, a turtle, and a few others. you put them on your buttondown by sticking the top button on the placket through the middle hole on the crochet piece. the outfit was completed with a grosgrain bow tied under the collar-haha. thanks for posting such cuties! @(*_*)@

They are so adorable!! That seems complicated for a first-time crochet project, so great! I used to crochet toys for my cat, just crochet-ing a 3-D object, could be a ball, or a tear-drop shape, I would put a little bell inside, then leave a long tail! Not sure if you have kitties, but they are fun and quick to make!
Happy crafting!! I just love your work, have been following your blog for awhile.
