little house
did you know little house on the prairie is my favorite tv show ever? and that i watch it every weekday morning as i drink my tea? the funny thing is i had never seen it until i moved to california about 10 years ago. it’s what inspired me grow my hair out so i could braid it. i cut it all off in jr. high (and made my mother cry, but she ended up liking it after the shock wore off) and i always wore it super short. today laura and mary were wearing the cutest knitted or crocheted bonnet-with-attached-scarf combos i’ve ever seen…
a close up of laura’s…i love the little rosette thingy on the scarf part. this one makes me think of monica burnett’s lovely kooky cute hats and headbands, and how i want to get one.
when disney decided to make the little house miniseries a couple of years ago, i was a little worried that it would be, well, disney-fied, but it totally wasn’t. in fact i thought it was great, way better than i ever would have expected, i was not disappointed. too bad it didn’t make it into a regular program.

i loved this program and remember as a young girl anxiously awaiting new weekly episodes. i have avoided tuning back in because i didn’t want to ruin it! maybe i will give it a try. don’t think i would look as good in the little hat as laura does!

Love this show!! My sisters and I (and the neighbors) used to wear bonnets around and “play” Little House when we were little. Our neighbor’s garage had a loft with a ladder so it was a perfect setting. Alison Arngrim who played Nelly has a standup act (which I’ve seen twice) that has some really funny LHOP bits. At the last show, Matthew Laborteaux (Albert) showed up. He’s still really cute.

LOL! i lived for this show too when i was younger.
for a fair amount of childhood, i had similar braids
–until my mother chopped it all off (which began a horrible series of amateur haircuts).
since, i have had all lengths at diff. points in time.

If you ever want to see the place that ‘was’ Walnut Creek in the LHOP series, take the 118 freeway into Simi Valley and exit Tapo Canyon, head north. I cannot say for sure, (I left Simi Valley in the mid 1990’s) but there used to be a nice little park out there even after the Little House set was long gone

OMG I love that show. I still watch it now and then.
I started TiVo’ing “the Waltons” which I hadn’t watched before, and I really loved that series too!!!
I live in Minnesota and have been to the LHOP museum, I guess you’d call it. ABSOLUTELY fascinating to see all that stuff, the real actual stuff, from Laura Ingalls Wilder. It’s (of course) in Walnut Grove Minnesota. They have an outdoor play every year, I’ve been to see it twice when I was younger.

I love laura ingalls too! At school we are doing a museum about someone famous and you have a button and ppl press it and you act like ur them. I’m doing laura ingalls. We have to act like that person for 3 hours just standing there waiting for ppl to press ur button. BORING! but what ev. At least we get days off school. LOL!

me too, well i have several favorite shows, but little house is definitely in the top ten. i still cry sometimes when i watch an episode of little house. i know, it’s so sappy, but i just can’t help myself. i also read all the books as a kid. my dad even built us a playhouse in the back yard with a loft like mary and laura had. me and my sister even looked kinda like mary and laura. you just can’t go wrong with bonnets + braids.
great blog hannah, i’ll be sure to visit often.
