donut trees
this funny post over at flapper girl reminded me that i’ve been meaning to show you this donut tree fabric from the old dunkin donuts uniforms. i always admired this print and was pretty thrilled when i found a remnant of it many years ago at a fabric store in boston. it’s such a great color combo! i made a pair of pants out of it sometime in my twenties. i still have this fat quarter of it left, and i still think it’s the best uniform print ever.

Oh my – memories!!! I had this print/uniform as a teenager and worked at DD! I can almost detect the greasy/sugary smell just looking at it!

Oh gosh, I wore that smock while working at a Dunkin Donuts in high school, in around 1990. It hit about mid-thigh and flared out with snaps down the front and a big brown collar. I remember my co-workers and I trying all sorts of creative tricks to make them slightly more fashionable. Tucking them in and blousing them out was our best solution. ha ha.
At the time the stores made their own donuts, I don’t think they do anymore. The machine that squirted the jelly and creme into the donuts was the coolest thing ever.

OMG! That fabric is AMAZING! It’s so rad that it was designed for uniforms, too. You’re right—the colorway is exceptional!
Thanks for linking to my blog :) I’m glad you liked the ice cream post. Hee hee!

Oh my word. If my uniform was made from that I’d be waaaaaay happier about going to work on a saturday morning.

I just have to chime in, almost a year after this post. I was specifically searching for the donut tree fabric to try to smuggle some into a quilt I am making. I am so jealous that I did not come across the same remnant (I live in Boston). Oh well, there’s always Brimfield!

This brings back so many memories. My parents owned a DD 1981-1988. Wore that smock more than I wanna remember. Thanx for the post!
