crocheted cross stitch

one of the projects from that stack of 70’s craft books i picked up at the thrift store this summer is traditional cross stitch patterns interpreted in crochet. i just finished this…

i really like this idea. it’s pretty big, 14″x17″. the stitch is a little cluster that make neat little squares, it would really work for any type of pattern on a grid.

i was looking through ‘charted peasant designs from saxon transylvania’ for another pattern to try this way. lots of good stuff. i think i might try this one…

and look who i spotted on this page

it’s those same birds!

Hi Hannah. What kind of crochet stitch did you use to make the cross stitch pattern? I’ve only ever tried it with single crochet, but this looks better.

I love this. I’ve been meaning to try this too, with some norwegian tree of life designs.
