scherenschnitte
this new skirt is one i’ve been wanting to make for a long time!
inspired by folk art cut-paper (as is my wycinanki skirt). one book on the subject i really like is “the amazing paper cuttings of hans christian andersen”
(i just discovered this book is actually intended for juveniles! haha, i guess i should have figured it out from the giant, easy to read print!) until i read it i didn’t even know he was an artist as well as a writer and storyteller. apparently he would tell a story and at the same time he would be cutting a piece of paper. by the time he finished telling the story, he had created an amazing cut paper masterpiece! here a few of my favorites from the book…
(hey, there’s a used copy on amazon for only $1.99! well worth it.)

what a great surprise to wake up to — i love this skirt! i’ve always been a fan of this sort of papercuts; i went to a papercut shadowbox theatre last night. now to decide between the colors… question: you’ve added a “Dresses” heading to the shop, and noted that it’s “coming soon” — any word on when? of course i’m more than satisfied with your fabulous skirts, but the idea of MWLBH dresses rocks my socks quite a bit. love the blog, also!

Hello, Hannah- your blog is wonderful! I had to let you know how much I like that paper cuttings book, too. I work at a library and our copy of that was set to be discarded due to too few checkouts…until I saved it! As long as I’m at that library, it stays on the shelves!! It’s so beautiful.
I was also jazzed to see the Scherenschnitte Skirt, because I used to do scherenschnitte stuff to put on our Christmas tree when I was in 9th grade (my grandmother *still* puts them on her tree every year).
By the way, I’m so happy with my April Showers skirt and it gets so many compliments when I wear it! And I hope you don’t mind, but I put a link to your website on my little blog- I can’t resist spreading the word about your cute, cute stuff!
